Marcel Deiss Description

An Altitude Vineyard Vineyard

Located on the "GRASBERG", at an altitude of 340 m with a North-East exposure at the top of the Grand Cru "Altenberg de Bergheim" which rests on the poor limestone of the Grande Oolithe. The thinness of the soil leads the vine to plunge deep into the subsoil in search of energy giving a very complex and long wine, marked by the poor limestones of the Grande Oolithe where the vine must deeply search for the ultimate Energy of its reproduction. The Grasberg is entirely tense, tight and complex and bears witness to this initiatory quest.

Tasted in the dark:

Mental Landscape: cold wine, quite interiorized. Luminous landscape, but with a colder orientation than Rotenberg: blue, orange, earth. Suggestions range from tea, lemon, to very acidic exotic fruits.
Nose: a very lively wine, very tense, but deeply sedimentary on the palate. Great density of lining matter (return of peacock tail salivation), but the attack is lively, the sap chiselled, the fine and impressive length. One nevertheless feels a certain restraint, as if the potential of this wine in the making was still in limbo.
The port or the energy: a limestone wine, like a banner. Finesse, vivacity, vinosity. The taut length of a candied lemon. One of the greatest wines of the Premiers Crus.
